ASHTABHUJA/ TAPASVI HANUMAN AND JAGANNATH PRABHU
The North gate of Jagannath Puri has Ashtabhuja Hanuman (8-armed) holding 4 chakras in his hands and facing East. Once, Sudarshan Chakra became proud due to his nearness to Prabhu. So Prabhu decided to end his ego.

He asked Sudarshan to call Hanuman who was doing tapasya in Abhyaranya. Sudarshan did so and came back before Hanuman could come. He,then, blocked Hanuman’s path. Immediately, with Prabhu’s grace, 6 extra arms grew on Hanuman n 4 arms held Chakras. He, then, went to meet Prabhu.
Sudarshan chakra was ashamed seeing this. Prabhu cursed him that in Kaliyug, he would lose his Chakra form and remain only as a pillar on the left side of Jagannath. At Sudarshan’s pleading, Prabhu relented and told him that his chakra form would remain at the top of Puri Mandir
Since then Tapasvi Hanuman is at the north gate of the Mandir and the Sudarshan Chakra is atop Jagannath Mandir. Inside the Mandir, Sudarshan is not in the shape of a wheel, but in the shape of a small wood pillar placed to the left of Jagannath.
